A: I suppose that this is space to document borders. We've set this space, so that yoursubmenus will not look like the part of browser window. If you wantyou can delete that space.
Open dmenu.js file in any text editor and find the following code:

Change 15 to 0.

Q: The menu doesn't show the drop down sub items. If you would look at the script there are two sublinks for Accommodation which however is not visible when we are doing a mouseover. A: You should set back color for your submenus.
For example you should create style and assign it for the subitems:
