Q: How do I apply styles to submenu items that are different from the styles of top javascript drop down menu items? For instance, I want to know how to apply background images for the submenus, but not for the menu items. I also want borders around the submenu ITEMS, not just the entire submenu. Here is the link to my page with the menus. The menu I am referring to is the top right hand menu (black with grey).
A: Create Individual Item and Submenu styles and assign it to your submenu items.

Assign Individual Items style to all submenu items and Individual Submenu Style for the first item in each submenu.Q: Even with the shadow setting removed -- there's a white space that surrounds the menu. I just can't figure out where the 1px white padding is coming from. I've checked and doubled checked my CSS -- so the problem is within the script with a setting I'm not familiar with.
A: Set
var menuBorderWidth=0;
to remove white border from your submenus.

Q: I am interested in your dhtml menu product, I did not see any examples using a target attribute for the url, i.e.

Also if this is supported if you could send me an example of how to configure this...
A: You should use the following parameter
var itemTarget = "_self";
Please, see also individual items targets, for example:

Change "_blank" to "" or to "_self".
Q: I did not make anything complex - simply added a couple of menu items. As you may see the java swing popup menu being expanded overlaps with the rest of the table. I guess I am just not doing something right since it is a trivial case ...
A: Now you're using absolute position for the menu:
var tabsolute=1;
You should use relative position.
